8.8 Short Contortion
The day was a cloudy day I remember it well. Today was the day of my last
day of gymnastics. This was the day where I had to strut my stuff, show off
to all the judges, that I had the stuff to get onto the olympic team. I
spent most of the day in my room, stretching adamantly, the last thing I
wanted was to pull a muscle standing in front of an olympic judge!
"What are you thinking Alison? You are one of the most flexible people in
the club!", I say to the empty room.
So I started stretching, I sat down on the floor, wearing my red leotard
proudly, I started by sliding effortlessly into a straddle split, rolling my
hips forward, and resting my body on the floor. Feeling no stretch at all I
stood, deciding to go over to get a chair, or a few chairs.
When I returned I had 2 chairs, I stood, and placed one foot on one chair,
lowering myself into a comfortable straddle split, I shifted, and moved my
other leg onto the other chair, and to my surprise, when I relaxed I was
doing a straddle split all the way to the ground.
Well I have no problem there, I thought to myself.
So I decided to try doing something a little more obscure. Some think that
the yoga that I do has no affect on my flexibility. I totally disagree, as
I take one leg, and slide it behind my head, then pull it down my shoulder.
I continue to pull until I feel a slight stretch. There I stop. I proceed to
put the other leg behind, pulling it down as well to that position where I
get a stretch. Ahhhh, something I have to work on!
After about 2 minutes, the stretch has worked itself in and I find that I
have to move on to another section to stretch. I look around my room..
thinking about what I need to stretch the most.
"Well I might as well stretch my back.", I say to the empty room.
So I lay down on my stomach, almost effortlessly I raise my legs up over my
head, bending my back into a 90 degree angle, I contine the bend letting my
legs move downward towards the floor, the degrees between my buttox and my
back shrinking. I sit, smiling the whole while at the immense flexibility I
have. As I feel my bum touch my back I grab my legs, and pull my head
through my legs. I look around.
"I love being flexible" I smile to myself.
I then raise my legs back up in the air and shift myself back, moving the
bend down my back, I let my legs back down so my bum is resting on my head.
I move my lets so they are straight up, then drop them into a straddle
split, pulling them down with my arms.
"I wonder how many people can do this?" I think to myself.
I pull my legs together, and point them in front of me, bend my knee's and
do a chest stand, trying to pull my body further and further through my
legs.
*knock* *knock* Alison! its time to go!
